Take part in the open review

This manuscript is being made public before formal publication so that readers can comment on its arguments, clarity, examples, sources, and omissions.

Review period

Comments will be open from 15 August to 15 December 2026. The manuscript may be revised during this period, but chapter URLs will remain stable.

How to comment

On chapter pages, select a passage and use the Hypothes.is annotation tool displayed in the right margin. A free Hypothes.is account is required to publish an annotation.

Comments can address, for example:

• an argument that needs clarification or qualification;
• a missing source, case, country, or perspective;
• a factual or typographical error;
• a passage that is particularly clear or useful;
• a disagreement about the book’s interpretation.

This is a working manuscript, not the final published edition. Comments on the text do not imply endorsement of the book as a whole.
