Insurance rests on a collective promise: resources are brought together so that no one is left alone with risk. Finer data, more opaque predictive models, and climate risks that are increasingly difficult to pool are placing that promise under strain.

Risk-Priced Society examines what prices, scores, and risk categories do to institutions of solidarity. Returning to the basic principles of insurance, it argues that debates presented as technical also involve political choices about what we are prepared to share.
